The Musi River, which was once the lifeline of Hyderabad, has been reduced to an open drain, stated Congress MP Anil Kumar Yadav as he brought attention to its worsening condition at the Rajya Sabha on Friday.
He called for action and criticised the central government for failing to support its restoration. As he traced Hyderabad’s roots to the river, Yadav pointed
out its vital role in the city's development. "The very foundation of Hyderabad was built along the banks of the Musi. Even our historic Charminar stands in its vicinity," he said.
He reminded the House that Musi was once a source of drinking water and a means of livelihood for many. Over time, unchecked industrial waste and sewage turned it into a polluted water body.
