Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar on Wednesday issued a circular memo instructing police personnel, both rider and pillion riders of two-wheelers, to wear helmets.

The instructions comes in the wake of criticism against the police department for some police personnel found not wearing helmets while driving two-wheelers.

“On social media, complaints are received from citizens that the Traffic police

are booking cases against them for not wearing helmets, whereas they are ignoring the personnel from the department, driving government vehicles without helmets,” it said.

The Commissioner instructed all the zonal heads and vertical heads of the city police to sensitize officers to wear helmets while driving or riding pillion on two-wheelers, as per sections of the MV Act 1988.
