The arrest of Pakistani national Faiz Mohammed in the city has raised concerns on the surveillance of Pakistan nationals and several such persons residing here illegally.
Meanwhile, Faiz was sent to judicial remand and a search has been intensified to nab his in-laws who helped him enter India illegally.
South zone DCP P. Sai Chaitanya said that Faiz entered India through the border in Uttar Pradesh. "We are probing into how he managed at the border checkposts or whether he had sneaked in through some other way. A hunt is also on to nab his in laws, who are now absconding," he said
Inquiries revealed that Faiz did not step out of his wife’s home in Kishan Bagh,
due to which nobody knew about him. Even the local police, special wings from the state and central agencies could not know about his stay, though he was there for eight months.
Claims of police and associated agencies cracking down on illegal residents and those overstaying visas were exposed once again with this incident. The only breather for them is that Faiz was not involved in any suspicious activities, as claimed by them.
"There is constant surveillance on these persons. Some people, however, manage to stay. We will step up surveillance on such persons and initiate action legally," said an official on condition of anonymity.
