With temperatures dropping significantly, physicians are reporting a surge in seasonal ailments, especially upper respiratory tract infections, in Hyderabad.

Most of the surge is related to cases of influenza, upper respiratory tract infections, lung diseases and viral fevers in Hyderabad. There is also a significant rise in cases of allergies, as winters are known to trigger allergies. Based on the data available with Allergy and Asthma Network of India (AANI), winters are known to cause 40 percent rise in cases of allergies.

Doctors are also reporting a significant rise in bouts of Asthma among patients who already were diagnosed with the ailment. “During winters, up to 80 per cent of allergic reactions are caused due to house dust mite and moulds.

Essentially, during winter airways of the lungs tighten, resulting in more aggressive unpredictable Asthmatic attacks,” says CEO of AANI and allergy specialist, Dr. Vyakaranam Nageshwar.
