All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi urged the people of Telangana, particularly those living in Hyderabad, to actively participate in the ongoing caste survey.

On Saturday, Mr. Owaisi released a video from his house at Shastripuram, after enumerators took his household details.
Speaking on the importance of the exercise, he highlighted that there are 45 “simple questions”. “I appeal to everyone to take part in the survey. By gathering this data, government will be able to design schemes that specifically benefit the poor, Dalits, BCs, and other marginalised sections of society,” he said.

He underscored the significance of the survey for Muslim minorities who fall under the BC

sub-category such as BC - E, and stated that the data is likely to pave the way for better reservations in fields of education and employment.

Mr. Owaisi also urged residents of gated communities to ensure enumerators are granted access. “The survey is not just for the poor. I request all sections of society to cooperate fully,” he stated. The statement in this connection assumes significance after the he asked an unstarred question in the parliament session about difficulties enumerators face while gathering information from living spaces such as gated communities.  Rao Inderjit Singh, Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation, acknowledged that gated societies present certain challenges in terms of not being responsive.
