Auto drivers call strike on Jan 8

Fri 27 Dec 2019, 12:09:55
The Autorickshaw Drivers Union Joint Action Committee (ADU-JAC) has called an ‘auto bandh’ on January 8 to press for their demands including the setting up of a welfare board for drivers and to revise the fares to keep pace with the rising costs.

The last time the auto fares were revised was in the year 2012 by the Congress government, the JAC said.

The

minimum fare was pegged at Rs 20 and per-kilometre at Rs 11. The JAC is now demanding the minimum fare at Rs 25 and the per-kilometre charge at Rs 15.

The JAC members have given call for all the autorickshaws, vans and cab drivers not ply their vehicles on January 8 and participate in the bandh. Rallies and protests are being planned at various locations in the city.
