The auction of the famed Balapur Ganesh laddu was successfully won by a rice trader and realtor for a whopping Rs 16.60 lakh. Last year, the laddu was auctioned at Rs 15.60 lakh.

Amid tough competition, T Srinivas Gupta, president, Balapur Arya Vysya Sangham and a city-based rice trader and realtor bought the laddu on behalf of Sangham.

Gupta said that the Sangham had decided to buy the laddu last year. “We were ready to bid till Rs 18 lakh but with God’s grace, the bidding stopped at Rs 16.60 lakh,” he said.

Gupta who is a resident of Balapur crossroads said he was not nurturing any political ambitions.

Like every year, Uma Maheshwar Rao from Tapeswaram of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh had donated the 21 kg laddu along with the silver bowl weighing about 2 kg.

The tradition started in the year 1994, this happens to be the silver jubilee year of Balapur Ganesh laddu auction. People believe that buying laddu will help them in political success besides bring in good health and wealth.
