BJP Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar has been appointed State BJP president by the party’s national president Jagat Prakash Nadda. He replaces Dr K Laxman with immediate effect. Sanjay, born in 1971, won the Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat in the 2019 Parliament elections defeating TRS candidate B Vinod Kumar.
His association with the Sangh Parivar started even when he was in school, when he joined the RSS. Later, he became Karimnagar city convener of ABVP, and then vice president and State Executive member of the BJP. He was also Director of Karimnagar Cooperative Urban Bank twice. He was election campaign in-charge at the BJP
national headquarters in New Delhi and was vehicle in charge during LK Advani’s Suraj Rath Yatra. However, he lost the Karimnagar Assembly seat twice in 2014 and 2018 elections.
Dr K Laxman, who formerly represented Musheerabad Assembly constituency was appointed State president in 2016. Sanjay’s appointment comes in the wake of calls for someone from outside Hyderabad to be appointed as State president to change the pro-urban image of the party in Telangana State.
Meanwhile, party leaders celebrated the event in old Karimnagar district.
