Two native words of the State are all set to find place in the renowned Oxford English Dictionary (OED).

The State festivals of Telangana – Bathukamma and Bonalu will be soon included in the dictionary.

The suggestion to add these two nouns which represent the culture of Telangana was made by Telangana Jagruthi founder and parliamentarian Kalvakuntla Kavitha. Acknowledging the suggestion, representatives of OED wrote a letter to Kavitha saying that they were delighted to receive a great deal of evidence in support of the currency of

these words in Indian English.

The letter also noted, “With an aim to extend the coverage of World English in the OED, we are considering these words for drafting.”

The Member of Parliament expressed her happiness on social media saying, “So happy to receive this letter from the Oxford English Dictionary acknowledging our request to include the words Bathukamma and Bonalu in the English dictionary. Two new nouns in the English language from the Telangana culture, sounds good.”
