Chief secretary SK Joshi on Tuesday directed district collectors to make arrangements for storage and distribution of Bathukamma saris during the festive season in October.

There are 1.08 crore women in the state as per the records available with the civil supplies department. Officials should ensure all the women aged above 18 years and having a white ration card should be given a Bathukamma sari,” he said.

He held a video conference with collectors and instructed them that they should identify a storage space (godowns) for saris and chalk out a distribution schedule.

Bathukamma have been provided, with each costing Rs 280. Joshi directed the officials to take steps for weavers’ enrolment in the Nethannaku Cheyutha scheme. Over Rs 22 crore have been deposited by weavers under the scheme and the state government will double this beneficiary contribution. Weavers can withdraw it after 36 months.

The collectors were also told to take steps facilitating weavers to avail input subsidy on raw materials, in addition to availing the loan waiver offer. The officials were told to coordinate with ministers and other local elected representatives for distribution of cheques by the end of next month.
