The GHMC has ordered for the closure of all the beef shops and slaughter houses in its limits on August 14 and 15. “The meat stores selling goat and sheep meat can remain open and the same applies to slaughter houses which deal with sheeps and goats,“ said a GHMC official.
People flouting the norms will be punished civic officials said. “The guilty will be prosecuted under sections 533(b) and 596 of the GHMC act,“ said T Srinivas Reddy , GHMC veterinary officer (North Zone). The modern abattoir at Chengicherla will also be closed on Janmashtami and
Independence Day .
In move against illegal slaughtering and unhygienic conditions , GHMC inspected four chicken stalls in Secunderabad where two were operating in unhygienic conditions.One stall was prosecuted under sections 521, 487 and 596 of GHMC act and another was imposed with a fine of `500.
The inspections are being made to spread awareness among meat sellers as per Venkateshwar Reddy ,GHMC chief veterinary officer.“The stores selling meat should be hygienic as it affects the health of the people,“ said the officer.
