The BJP will launch an agitation from July 18 demanding the state government to immediately pay agriculture loan waiver dues to farmers, a promise Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had made in 2018.
Announcing this, the BJP state general secretary G. Premender Reddy said that the Rao government was anti-farmers, which was why they are calling for ‘ab ki baar Telangana mein kisan sarkaar’.
"There are many questions on the power supply situation for farmers. We demand a white paper on the power situation with details of power purchase agreements, procurement costs and details on how much power is being supplied to farmers," Reddy said.
Meanwhile, the BJP also announced that it will start its ‘Tiffin baithak’ programmes from Sunday where party workers will join for informal discussions over tiffins that each brings
from home. These meets will be held in all the Assembly constituencies in the state.
Reddy said the state government has not done anything for farmers. Though the Centre is sending funds for agricultural produce procurement, as on today many farmers are yet to receive it for selling food grains.
"The state does not implement the solar agriculture pump set scheme of the Centre, which will free the farmers from dependence on state supplied power. But Rao does not want to implement this scheme in Telangana," Reddy said.
Compared to this the Narendra Modi government has increased support prices for crops. It has disbursed Rs 3,40,000 crore to farmers under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme by depositing 6,000 every year in their individual bank accounts.
