A breast feeding kiosk was inaugurated at Begumpet railway station here on Sunday.
The new facility was set up by Rotary International District 3150 with support from SCR. The kiosk is a pilot project for the benefit of women passengers and three cubicles in the breast-feeding kiosk have been set up at a cost of Rs 1 lakh.
The kiosk is located on platform 1 in Begumpet where nearly 1.50 lakh passengers commute through in 121 MMTS services and 54 other trains, a press release said.
According to Rotary and the railways, more such baby feeding corners or centres/cubicles would be set up shortly at more railway stations as
breastfeeding is one of the basic amenities required at the railway stations.
“Railway Board has prescribed 20 minimum amenities to be provided at the railway stations and breast feeding kiosk is one of them. The kiosks at Secunderabad and Hyderabad has evoked a very good response. The kiosk opened today is the most mother-friendly one,” said Archana Rachel, Asst Commercial Manager, SCR.
Sesha Sai Kumar of the Rotary Foundation said that they would soon open one kiosk each at Nampally and Kachiguda railway stations. “A kiosk with two chambers costs Rs 75,000 while three chambers, it costs Rs 1 lakh,” he added.
