BRS leader Dr RS Praveen Kumar said it was deplorable that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was not aware that government-residential schools were already integrated educational institutions.
“As a son of Telangana, I am worried that Revanth Reddy doesn’t know that the existing residential schools are already integrated educational institutions initiated by the then Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao and strengthened by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao,” Praveen Kumar said at a press conference here on Saturday.
Around 600 students of an existing residential school were already facing certain problems. He opined that they would witness some more challenges if residential schools were integrated. He cited the example of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUK)-Basar.
He ridiculed that Revanth Reddy was not familiar with the history of residential schools. He stated that the Chief Minister was assuming that only a certain section of students
study in the residential schools after being misled by officials.
He wanted the government to continue the present residential school system and to increase enrolments by creating infrastructure and by allocating more funds than the past if required.
Refuting allegations levelled against him by Revanth Reddy that he was against the proposed Young India Integrated Residential Schools, Praveen said that the Chief Minister was making false statements against him. He stated that Revanth Reddy was playing with the lives of the students by introducing the integrated residential schools, dubbing the initiative as old wine in new bottles.
The BRS leader further said that Revanth Reddy was unnecessarily targeting Chandrashekhar Rao over the residential schools. He clarified that various communities including upper castes were provided with education at the institutions. He advised Revanth Reddy to cross check records of the residential school to find out the background of pupils.
