Demanding the Congress government to fulfil its promise made to farmers of extending Rs 15,000 assistance under Rythu Bharosa, BRS leaders and workers held rallies and staged protests at different places across the State on Monday.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had announced that under Rythu Bharosa, Rs 12,000 per acre would be extended from January 26. This was against the promise made to extend Rs 15,000 per acre as part of the Congress’ Warangal Declaration.
Slamming the Congress government for deceiving the farmers, the BRS workers, along with farmers and farm labourers, raised slogans against the State government, burnt the Warangal Declaration copies ans staged rasta-rokos as well.
Following BRS working president KT Rama Rao’s call for a State-wide protest, party activists staged demonstrations at different places in Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jagtial and Rajanna-Sircilla districts. Agitating workers raised slogans against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and the Congress government. They alleged that Revanth Reddy, who promised to provide Rs 15,000 per acre, betrayed the farming community now by offering only Rs 12,000. The true colours of the Congress was exposed once again.
At Narsapur, MLA V Sunitha Lakshma Reddy said the Congress government cheated the farmers by going back on the promises made on Rythu Bharosa. The BRS workers took out a protest rally in Narsapur following Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s decision to restrict the Rythu Bharosa benefit to Rs 12,000 per acre against his poll promise of Rs 15,000 per acre.
They buried a flexie banner, which listed out the government’s failures at Narsapur junction.
Similarly, the BRS cadres staged rasta-roko in mandal centres and towns in Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts. They raised slogans criticising the government for betraying the farmers. Demanding the Congress government to extend the promised input subsidy of Rs 15,000 under Rythu Bharosa, farmers and BRS cadre staged protests at different places in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district as well.
At Peddagudem village in Wanaparthy, women farm labourers assembled in large numbers and raised slogans against the Congress government. They demanded the Congress government fulfil the promises made to farmers and not deceive them. In protest, the women and BRS party workers dumped copies of the Warangal Declaration in the bonfire set up at the Peddagudem crossroads. The women also reminded they were betrayed by the Congress party. After promising to pay monthly Rs 2,500 assistance, the State government had failed to fulfil the promise, they said.
Likewise, at Shadnagar, the BRS workers staged a protest at the Tahsildar office in the constituency. Before the Parliament elections, the farmers were assured that all their crop loans would be waived without any terms and conditions before August 15. Many farmers were running from pillar to post to get their loans waived even today, said BRS leader Y Ravinder.
Now, with an eye on local bodies’ elections, the Congress government was assuring farmers financial assistance under Rythu Bharosa. However, the government cannot deceive the farmers this time. It has to extend Rs 15,000 per acre as promised during assembly elections and cannot wash off its hands by extending Rs 12,000 per acre under the scheme, the BRS leaders demanded.
