Protests erupted across Telangana on Friday as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) staged demonstrations against the suspension of its senior leader and Suryapet MLA G Jagadish Reddy from the Legislative Assembly. Accusing the Congress government of suppressing the opposition, BRS leaders and activists burnt effigies and took out protest rallies, demanding immediate revocation of the
suspension.
Jagadish Reddy was suspended for the entire Budget Session after allegedly making inappropriate remarks against Speaker Gaddam Prasad. However, the BRS contended that his suspension was politically motivated and aimed at silencing voices questioning the Congress government’s failures. On the occasion, BRS working president KT Rama Rao called for Statewide protests on Friday.
