BRS leaders and Choppadandi constituency in-charge Sunke Ravishankar demanded the State government to start paddy procurement.
Stating that farmers were facing troubles due to lack of facilities in paddy procurement centers, he wanted the officials to take initiatives for the convenience of farmers.
Ravishankar visited the PACS purchasing center in Kurikyala of Gangadhara mandal on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that farmers, who brought paddy to procurement centers across the constituency, were facing troubles due to lack of facilities.
Even tarpaulins were not available to protect the crop from rain. As procurement was not done immediately when the crop was brought to the centers, the crop has been
soaked due to unseasonal rains.
Farmers were forced to sell soaked paddy to rice millers at cheaper prices. So, the government should respond immediately and start the procurement process.
The Congress party, which promised to provide Rs 500 bonus to all varieties of paddy during the election campaign, has changed its voice after coming to power and announced for only fine variety, he said, demanding that the government provide bonus to all varieties.
No rice mill in the constituency has been allocated paddy so far. Weighing of crops would not start unless the allotment of rice mills was not finalized. So, the collector and agriculture officials should take initiatives for the allotment of rice mills, he added.
