Hyderabad: A woman who shared her Facebook account details, including her password, with a man who was friendly with her, ended up facing harassment and blackmail from him, following which she had to approach the police.
The Rachakonda Cyber Cell police, acting on the 21-year-old woman’s complaint, on Tuesday arrested P. Raju, 27, of Kothapet on charges of stalking and blackmailing her.
According to the police, Raju allegedly began harassing the victim after she rejected his proposal for a date. He started torturing her by posting vulgar messages on her Facebook account which he accessed by obtaining her user id and password from the victim herself. The police said the victim, a nursing graduate, got in touch with Raju through a common
friend three years ago. Raju, a cab driver with a reputed firm in the city, used to call her regularly and offer to drop her. When they were in good terms, she shared her Facebook account details with him, and when she started avoiding him after he asked her for a date, he used her account to take revenge.
“He posted vulgar messages to her contacts. He also blackmailed her by showing the messages he had sent through her Facebook account,” said P Raghuveer Reddy, Inspector, Cyber Cell.
He was arrested after police registered a case under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act. Police, who seized one mobile phone from Raju, produced him before court, after which he was remanded in judicial custody.
