Wing commander Abhinandan Varthaman, the MiG-21 Bison pilot, who was missing in action after he shot down a Pakistan Air Force fighter, has Hyderabad connection. Hailing from Chennai, the pilot underwent stage one and two training at Dundigal and Hakeempet air force stations for one year. After completing training, he selected fighter pilot training. He completed the training at Yelahanka air force station in Bengaluru.

the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs said the Indian Air Force (IAF) responded after detecting a Pakistan air force fighter aircraft that was shot down by MiG 21 Bison pilot of IAF. The Pakistani aircraft was seen by the ground forces falling from the sky on the Pakistan side. “In this engagement, we have unfortunately lost one MiG 21. The pilot is missing in action,” the spokesperson said.
