The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) conducted assessment of dilapidated structures in the city and identified over 340 structures which have been posing grave threat to the residents.
Authorities said that instructions were given to the civic staff to implement the monsoon action plan effectively to prevent life loss. The civic body requested people staying in dilapidated buildings to cooperate with them in demolition or get the buildings repaired in the interest of safeguarding lives and property.
Civic authorities said that corporations so far have repaired/demolished 225 such structures and 124 in the pipeline to be repaired. As per the official data, 58 structures in Begumpet and 42 structures in Goshamahal circles have been posing grave threat.
Authorities said that a caution notice has been pasted on the structures that were sealed and notices were also served to the owners of dilapidated buildings for demolition/repair.
Officials said that the special drive would continue until action on all dilapidated structures was completed. A senior GHMC official said that notices have been issued to the occupants of these buildings, informing them of the status of their structures.
He said the corporation gave the option to either vacate the premises or have the building repaired and certified for structural stability. The official said that they have not found any dilapidated structures in the Charminar circle. However, the official said that a thorough re-assessment would be conducted with a dedicated team in the Charminar circle to prevent life loss.
"Instructions have also been given to the engineering wing to promptly assess dilapidated structures and submit reports in a timely manner. To ensure the effective implementation of the monsoon action plan, the zonal commissioners have been overseeing and coordinating the efforts," he added.
