Prime Minister Narendra Modi allotted 19 oxygen plants for Telangana and 23 for Andhra Pradesh under PM-CARES funds in the first phase, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy said on Friday.

Addressing a virtual press conference, he said the Prime Minister had already given instructions to set up oxygen plants in Telangana and AP at the earliest. He said 1,400 ventilators were provided to all the government hospitals in the State with PM-Cares funds.

Plans had been chalked out to set up oxygen plants with Pressure Swing Absorption (PSA) technology at all the government hospitals, especially those in district headquarters. The technology was developed



by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

These plants will enable hospitals to generate oxygen easily without wasting time and expenditure on transportation. The technology will mainly help hospitals that are far away from the main cities and in high altitudes. Works pertaining to installation of oxygen plants in Telangana had already commenced, the Union Minister said.

Reddy said the Centre had so far given as many as 71.23 lakh doses of Covid vaccines to Telangana. Of them, 65.86 lakh were given free to the government hospitals by the Central government while 5.36 lakh were given to 27 private hospitals.
