The State government proposed construction of two six-lane skyways such as PVNR Expressway, from Paradise to Suchitra Circle and Jubilee Bus Station to Shamirpet, to ease traffic congestion. However, the BJP government at the Centre did not respond to our repeated requests over past five years, said TRS working president K T Rama Rao on Wednesday.
Addressing a roadshow at Sikh Village, Rama Rao said national parties did no good to Telangana State. “Though the State government offered 600 acres near Shamirpet against 100 acres of defence lands in Cantonment area, there was no response. They also refused to part away with defence land in a bid to provide pattas to the poor who are living in vacant defence lands for several decades,” he added. He assured to consider the proposal of extending Hyderabad Metro Rail to Suchitra and Alwal, in case the Defence Ministry agrees to hand over necessary land to the State government after the elections.
Rama Rao further explained that drinking water was supplied to households in Cantonment area for once in every three days. But after the TRS government came to power, drinking water was being supplied every alternative day and it will be supplied on a daily basis like the rest of the city shortly. He also promised to reduce drinking water supply charges on par with the rest of GHMC area. He pointed out that following a request from the local elected representatives including the Cantonment Board members, the State government waived off about Rs 17 crore of
pending water bills.
The TRS working president objected to the Cantonment authorities blocking the roads for civilians as per their whims and wishes on the excuse of national security. He also expressed displeasure over their non-cooperation with the State government to provide basic amenities to denizens of the area. “GHMC sanctioned Rs 2.5 crore for development of Ramanna Kunta Cheruvu and Trimulgherry Cheruvu. But the Cantonment authorities are not allowing its development. Neither they are creating necessary amenities nor allowing us to provide facilities to people,” he said.
Rama Rao wondered if development was only possible with the national parties, why both Congress and BJP which ruled the country for over six decades failed to provide basic amenities and address essential problems of people. He also termed Congress candidate A Revanth Reddy as an ‘invalid currency’ who was rejected by people of Kodangal Assembly constituency, but the Congress was trying to force him on people of Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency which will be thwarted by people.
Appealing to the people to vote for TRS, he said, “Marri Rajasekhar Reddy is a localite and knows your problems. He will resolve all the issues in the area.”
Labour Minister Ch Malla Reddy, TRS MP candidate Marri Rajashekhar Reddy, TRS general secretary M Sudheer Reddy, GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and other leaders were present.
