Union minister G. Kishan Reddy said on Thursday that the Centre, for the first time, would hold celebrations to mark the occasion at the Golconda fort on June 2.
According to Kishan Reddy, efforts are on to have Union minister Amit Shah attend the event. With the state Assembly elections slated to be held in November, the BJP does not want to miss out on reiterating its role in Telangana gaining statehood. The party leaders had repeatedly said that the BJP was at the forefront of the demand for statehood and supported it fully in
Parliament and that K. Chandrashekar Rao was not even present in the Lok Sabha during the passage of the Bill granting statehood to Telangana.
Kishan Reddy’s comments came at a meeting of the BJP’s Hyderabad central district working committee and city party leaders and workers.
It may be recalled that the Centre had commemorated Hyderabad Liberation Day on September 17 at the Parade Ground, with Union minister Amit Shah as the chief guest. The BJP had been for long complaining that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao who promised to observe September 17 as Hyderabad Liberation Day had never done so,.
The state government organised its own Hyderabad Integration Day last year.
