The State’s Chief Electoral Office (CEO) is planning to issue voter ID cards in Braille to facilitate visually impaired persons to vote and ensure an increase in voting percentage.
The State officials will give a demo on Braille voter IDs to Election Commission of India team headed by Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat at Taj Krishna. The team is on a three-day visit to the State to assess poll preparedness.
Disabled Welfare Department Commissioner
B Sailaja told on Monday, “We prepared the demo Braille voter ID cards with all the details of visually impaired voters. This is the first such experiment in the country and it will help visually impaired persons to exercise their franchise without the intervention of any third person.”
“Once the ECI approves it, we will print the cards and distribute them to all the 60,000-odd visually impaired voters in the State,” She said.
