The Charminar Pedestrianisation Project will be completed soon and the area will be transformed into an international tourist spot, said Mayor Bonthu Rammohan.
He said instructions had already been issued to officials to complete the project on a war footing. All the unauthorized constructions around the historic monument would be cleared and measures would be taken to provide amenities for tourists at the location, he said.
Speaking at the launch of SHE Toilets near Charminar, the Mayor said the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had set a target to establish 1,000 public
toilets across the city. Already 900 have been established and rest of the facilities would be brought into operation shortly, he said.The State Bank of Hyderabad sponsored the establishment of two SHE Toilets in the area as part of its corporate social responsibility activities.
GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said the user charges for using the facility was fixed at just Rs 2. Giving details, he said the toilets were equipped with stainless steel body and would not develop any rust. Reddy said the toilets were being established in the city with the association of corporate companies.
