Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Thursday started earmarking 50 ft around the monument as ‘No Hawkers Zone’. The restriction around the over 425-year-old landmark is likely to come into force by the first week of May, when the Ramzan month begins. GHMC put up ‘No Hawker Zone’ markings around the structure on Thursday.
The officials decided to start the enforcement by placing flowerpots on the markings
to prevent hawkers from venturing into the zone. Later, these flowerpots would be replaced with two-ft-high hydraulic bollards, GHMC Director (Planning) K Srinivasa Rao said.
The idea is to facilitate tourists and visitors to spend quality time at the historic monument. The municipal corporation already completed granite pavement works on all four sides in the buffer zone of the structure.
