Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Monday announced a hike in hostel mess charges benefiting 18 lakh students from Class III to degree level in the State.
Replying to the debate on the Appropriation Bills in the State Assembly, he said the hike would result in an additional financial burden of Rs 117 crore on the State exchequer. “The State is topping the list in welfare and students’ needs cannot be ignored,” he said.
The mess charges for students from Class III to Class VII will be increased from Rs 750 to Rs 950 per month, Rs 850 to Rs 1,100 for students from class VIII to X and Rs 1,050 to 1,400 for Intermediate and degree students. In the case of students pursuing professional courses, the
mess charge will be hiked from Rs 962 to Rs 1,500 per month.
Besides this, the hike will also be applicable to all the categories of students such as students pertaining to hostels attached to colleges, student-managed hostels and day-scholar hostels.
In the case of hostels attached to institutions, the charges will be hiked from Rs 682 to Rs 1,500 for PG courses, Rs 520 to Rs 1,000 for degree courses and Rs 520 to Rs 750 for Intermediate.
As far as the student-managed hostels and day-scholar hostels are concerned, the charges will be hiked from Rs 442 to Rs 650 for professional courses, Rs 440 to Rs 650 for PG courses, Rs 325 to Rs 500 for degree and Intermediate.
