Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao came out with his guns blazing against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, and termed the BJP-led NDA government’s five-year tenure as an “utter flop.” ”People had pinned a lot of hope on Modi when he was elected, but he let them down completely. He had a complete majority on his side and had loads of opportunities, but he failed. And then he criticises the TRS government. Does the Prime Minister have any significant achievement to show during his rule?” the Chief Minister asked, addressing a public meeting at Alladurgam in Zaheerabad Lok Sabha constituency.
Taking a dig at both the BJP and the Congress leaders, Chandrashekhar Rao said Modi comes to Telangana State and says TRS is sailing with the Congress, and AICC president Rahul Gandhi lands here and accuses the ruling party of being an agent of BJP. “Let me make it clear, we don’t need to sail with anybody. Yes, we are agents. We are agents of the people of Telangana. Their aspirations and needs are our agenda,” he said, even as the crowd cheered the Chief Minister.
He also cautioned people to be careful of the promises being made by the BJP and Congress. Addressing another public meeting at Narsapur in Medak Lok Sabha constituency, he reminded people of Modi’s 2014 election promise of depositing Rs 15 lakh in the bank accounts of every family in the country by bringing back to the country black money stashed abroad.
“A year later, journalists asked BJP president Amit Shah about this promise. And Shah replied saying many promises are made during elections. ‘Do we say all we promise in poll campaigns? Woh tho chunavi jumla tha (that was just to lure voters in the elections)’,” Chandrashekhar Rao said. Congress too came in for a sharp attack from Chandrashekhar Rao who called it a “party with
bankrupt ideas.”
“Back in 1974-75 when I was a degree student in Siddipet, Indira Gandhi came up with the Garibi Hatao slogan. She was followed as Prime Minister by her son Rajiv Gandhi, then by PV Narasimha Rao, then by Manmohan Singh who all said the same thing. And now Rahul Gandhi is continuing with the same drama and calls its ‘Nyay’,”
Chandrashekhar Rao said. “How long will such dramas continue? How long should the country suffer? When will poverty be wiped out? This shows just how BJP and Congress will say anything to get votes,” he said.
“It is just not in their hearts to really work for India and its people. Telangana should unite and declare to the rest of the country that it will play a role in developing the nation and change people’s lives for the better. If we elect 16 TRS MPs, I will do everything I can in my power and strength to achieve this,” he said.
India, he said, must move away from the rut that it is stuck in. It has to get onto a better path. “Indications are that we can do this,” he added.
Stating that the Modi government had failed to address even basic issues, the Chief Minister said all that the people want from the government is the fulfilment of basic needs including education, medical facilities, drinking water, water for irrigation and a roof over their head.
“The BJP government failed on all these fronts. Dalits and minorities from Kashmir to Kanyakumari are not happy with the government since they have been completely ignored,” he said, adding that Telangana was the only State in the country which was supplying 24×7 quality power to all the sectors including agriculture. “Even Modi’s Gujarat doesn’t have this,” he said.
