Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said on Tuesday said that not many people knew about the greater side of the Nizam of Hyderabad who was instrumental for the land survey and settlement conducted in Hyderabad State between 1930-34.
Replying to a short discussion on purification of land records in the State Legislative Assembly, he said the greatness of the Nizam was buried deliberately in the archives by the Seemandhra rulers in the undivided State. “We have our own opinion about Nizam though others may differ with it”, he asserted. Nizam distributed one lakh acres of land to tribal farmers after an enquiry was conducted by an independent commission headed by a French officer into the uprising of Komaram Bheem in Adilabad with the slogan of “Jal, Jungle,
Zameen”.
Hailing the Nizam’s respect for independent judiciary, Chandrashekhar Rao said his family was paid a compensation of Rs 70,000 in 1940 as per the direction of the High Court for the land acquired by the State for construction of the Upper Manair project. “The good things about the Nizam’s rule did not see the light of the day,” he said.
The construction of different heritage structures in Hyderabad including its educational institutions, hospitals, its revenue system owed much to Salar Jung-I. He said that the reforms in revenue system initiated by Salar Jung-I were completed by Salar Jung-II. Later for many decades, no land survey could be taken up. That is the reason, the state took up the survey exercise, he said.
