Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday launched state-wide Kanti Velugu (free eye check-up) programme at Malkapur village in Gajwel. He also distributed spectacles to five villagers after they underwent an eye test.
Don’t be afraid of surgeries. We have good equipments to do the surgeries required,” he told the villagers. In the next six months, 3.7 crore people will undergo eye test and surgeries and also get free spectacles.
Expressing concern over caste discrimination, KCR said, “The most disturbing thing in India is that people are being discriminated on the basis of caste, religion and gender. It is not like this in other countries. Such differences exist only in India.”
He praised women, including Medak district superintendent of police Chandana Deepti,
deputy speaker Padma Devender Reddy and IAS officers Shanthi Kumari and Vakati Karuna, for achieving success. “How are women any less than men? Why should only women be expected to cook? They can excel in anything. Gender disparity should go,” the CM said.
The chief minister said a plan was being prepared for underground drainage system in the entire state. “When all amenities are in place and people also take responsibility to keep their surroundings clean, it will be a different atmosphere altogether,” KCR said.
“The collector and the minister are good people. I being your MLA cannot spend enough time with you as I am also the chief minister of the state. But I am able to sanction whatever you require,” KCR told the villagers, much to their delight.
