Government officials will be appointed as persons incharge in place of sarpanches whose term will come to an end on August 1.

This decision was taken by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at a meeting with senior officials here on Tuesday. It was decided not to continue the sarpanches as persons incharge but appoint government officials in their place.

Officials told KCR that in accordance with the provisions of the law, the outgoing sarpanches cannot be appointed



as persons in-charge, and even the courts may not agree to it. As there were demands from outgoing sarpanches that they be appointed as persons incharge, KCR held the review meeting with chief secretary SK Joshi, principal secretary to CM S Narsing Rao, panchayat raj principal secretary Vikas Raj, municipal administration principal secretary Arvind Kumar, panchayat raj commissioner Neetu Prasad, Mission Bhagiratha chairman Vemula Prashanth Reddy and others.
