Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday said Statehood for Telangana was achieved only because of the foresight of Dr B R Ambedkar who incorporated necessary provisions in the Constitution.
Paying rich tributes to Bharat Ratna and architect of Indian Constitution Dr Ambedkar on his 130th birth anniversary on April 14, the Chief Minister termed the former’s efforts to make India a secular republic and democratic country without caste discrimination, as highly laudable. He recalled the services rendered by Dr Ambedkar to the country on the occasion.
Chandrashekhar Rao said taking inspiration from Ambedkar, the State government was implementing several schemes and programmes for the welfare and development of weaker sections, spending thousands of crores. “The ideals of Dr Ambedkar’s ideals are imbibed in these schemes and programmes being implemented to strengthen rural economy and provide self-respect to the weaker sections in the society,” he stated.
The Chief Minister pointed out that the State government has created a special development fund under SC and ST Sub Plan Act and funds were allocated as per the population ratio for their development. Under the Act, the funds, which are not spent in a financial year, are transferred to the next year without diverting them to other
departments.
Further, he recalled that the TS Pride programme being implemented by the State government to promote the Dalit entrepreneurs was bearing fruits. He said the State government was lending funds to the Dalit industrialists for setting up food processing industries at an interest rate of three per cent per annum. He said reservations were given for the Dalits in the work taken up in the market yards.
Emphasising the need of education for empowerment of SC and ST communities, Chandrashekhar Rao reminded about the achievements of the residential educational institutions exclusively established for SC and ST students. Apart from providing quality education, skill development and training programmes are being conducted in various allied fields.
“It is a moment of pride for me as the students from these residential institutions are not only showing their merit in academics but also in various sports and co-curricular events both nationally and internationally,” he added.
Under Videsh Vidya Nidhi, students from these communities are provided financial support to pursue their studies abroad. The Chief Minister said the government is making efforts to encourage inter-caste marriages to pave way for a casteless society in the State.
