CM KCR pays tributes to Mahatma Phule

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Sunday said the State government has introduced a slew of welfare programmes for the empowerment of backward classes by taking inspiration from Bahujan philosopher and social reformer Mahatma Jyoti Rao Govind Rao Phule.

He said the government’s efforts kept Telangana in top place and it is now a role model in implementing welfare schemes for all weaker sections and empowerment of artisan communities in the country.

Paying tributes to Phule on the eve of his birth anniversary on Monday, 
the Chief Minister said the State government established Mahatma Jyotibha Phule BC Welfare Gurukul Educational Institutions to ensure access to quality education by all deserved sections.

The BC gurukulams were also opened in all Assembly constituencies. Special gurukulams have been set up for girl students. The government has already initiated steps to open a first-of-its-kind women university in the country in Telangana, he said.

Stating that Phule laid a strong



pillar for girl education, the State government, under Phule BC Videshi Vidya Nidhi (for overseas education), helped students to avail Rs 20 lakh financial assistance to go foreign countries and pursue professional courses of their choice.

The State government built self-respect buildings (Atmagourava Bhavans) specifically for Bahujans, and also implementing several welfare schemes for them. The incentives extended to the communities engaged in the traditional occupations was helping to boost the rural economy, bringing cheers in the lives of backward and weaker sections, the Chief Minister said.

He said that the State government would strive to achieve the goals and aspirations set by Phule in the coming days.

The Chief Minister recalled the services of Phule who toiled his entire life to build a discrimination free and equality of all sections in the society. He said Phule unstinted efforts laid a strong path for revolutionary changes in the upliftment of dalit bahujan community in the country.
