The third phase of Haritha Haram, the Telangana government's ambitious plan to increase tree cover in the state from the current 24% to 33% of land area, will be launched by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in Karimnagar on July 12.

Officials have set themselves a target of planting one lakh saplings on that single day in the district by involving all sections of the society , including students.

Chief secretary SP Singh on Monday said that the programme



will continue for the next three to four months. He called on district level officials of the forest and other departments to ensure that the plantation targets for each district are met. In all, the plan this year is to plant 40 crore saplings, of which five crore will be toddy trees.

Addressing a video conference, Singh said that KCR's determination to increase the green cover in the state should be reflected in the programme's implementation.
