Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday met delegates of tech giant Google at the Secretariat to discuss the company’s expansion plans in the state, during which the company’s vice president Chandrashekar Thota expressed the company’s intent to coordinate with the state government.

The Chief Minister also urged Micron Technology, a global memory and data storage major, to set up its unit in Telangana state during a meeting with its Chief Executive Officer Sanjay Mehrotra.

Noting that artificial intelligence (AI) would influence every sector, Thota said Google could partner with the state government to develop a digitisation agenda for the state in farming, health and education sectors using AI.

Thota said that the company has the technology and expertise to provide quality services to cater to the needs of Telangana citizens. The Chief Minister also discussed ways to improve road safety using Google Maps and Google Earth platforms.

"Google vice-president Chandrasekhar Thota discussed investments in Telangana state and expressed desire to work together with the government," an official release issued by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said.

Dr Vinayaka Chintapally, managing director, Pi Health Cancer Hospital, also took part in the meeting.

Official sources said that Revanth Reddy

discussed the progress of Google’s new campus in Hyderabad, which would be the biggest one outside the USA, with a 3.3 million sq. ft building on a 7.3-acre site in Gachibowli. The work on the same started in April 2022.

Google currently operates out of a leased facility in Kondapur and employs about 7,000 workers, while the new campus is likely to nearly double the headcount. Google representatives informed Revanth Reddy that the new campus would be ready by 2026.

In his meeting with Revanth Reddy, Chief Executive Officer of Micron Technology, the world's largest chip manufacturing company, who flew to Hyderabad after taking part in the recent Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, discussed his company's expansion plans in India and the prospects in Telangana state.

Revanth Reddy requested him to consider the state for the company's foray into the semiconductors manufacturing sector.

Revanth Reddy informed Merhotra about the rapid strides that the state had made in this sector, emerging as a hub for semiconductor industry.
Mehrotra expressed happiness over the conducive business environment in Telangana state, according to a statement. Revanth Reddy assured him that the state government would extend all facilities and cooperation to Micron to invest and set up manufacturing facilities.
