The computerised Qurrah (draw of lots) for intending Haj-2020 pilgrims was inaugurated by Ajay Misra, Special Chief Secretary, Minorities Welfare, at Haj House, Nampally on Saturday.
It was held in the presence of Md Masiullah Khan, chairman, TS Wakf Board, Mamata Gupta, Corporator, Tayyaba Affandi, member, Central Haj Committee, MA Shafi, Corporator and members of State Haj Committee. B Shafiullah, executive officer, State Haj Committee, said a quota of 4,341 pilgrims was allotted to Telangana for which 10,752 online applications were received. A total of 464 applications were received under senior citizens category and eight aspirants were women without Mehram category
while another 23 applications were for infants.
He said the selected pilgrims can remit Rs 81,000 on or before February 1 and Rs 1.20 lakh on or before March 15 as 1st balance amount and submit their online forms along with original passport to the State Haj Committee. The remittance can be made through State Bank of India or Union Bank of India, online service i.e., www.hajcommittee.gov.in.
Urging the applicants not to fall in the trap of middlemen, he said, “No agents can have any say in this matter since the whole system has been computerised for random selection and personal influence cannot be made”.
