In Telangana, the Congress bagged the Graduates MLC constituency in the by-poll. 

The Congress candidate in the Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal Graduates MLC by-poll, Theenmar Mallanna alias Ch Naveen Kumar, won the election in the elimination round against the BRS candidate Rakesh Reddy. 

In the second priority votes, Rakesh Reddy gave a tough fight against Mallanna. However, Mallanna won the election even though he failed to reach the magic figure. 

Mallanna dominated from the first round and continued his majority till around



20,000 first-priority votes. In the end, the Election officer announced that Mallanna had won as Rakesh Reddy was eliminated last evening.  

The by-poll was held on 27th of last month and the counting of votes began in Nalgonda on 5th of this month. Over 4 lakh 63 thousand electors in 34 Assembly constituencies took part in the by-poll. A total 52 candidates were n the fray. 

The election was necessitated after P Rajeswar Reddy resigned after he got elected to the Legislative Assembly from Jangaon.
