Visakhapatnam: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi , who has already expressed solidarity with the steel workers’ agitation against privatisation of Visakhapatnam steel plant, would visit Andhra Pradesh soon, according to Congress Working Committee special invitee and former Union Minister Chinta Mohan.

Talking to reporters at the Press Club here on Wednesday, he observed that the socialist policies of Pandit Nehru had helped the development of the nation. While Indira Gandhi nationalised private companies, now Prime Minister Narendra Modi was selling them to corporates, he stated, and wondered why the Centre should sell the Vizag steel plant, which was now reaping profits and was in a position to pay salaries for workers. Mohan said that the Vizag steel

plant would be given to the people if Congress came to power.

The Andhra Pradesh government now was not in a position to oppose the Centre and only the Congress had the courage, he remarked. He also alleged that the State government was not paying the scholarships, mess bills nor fee reimbursement to SC,ST and OBC, and minority students for the past two years and diverted even Central funds to other purposes.

He demanded payment of arrears to students before November 1. The Congress leader also said that Rahul Gandhi would be the future Prime Minister of India. Admitting that there was a dearth of leaders in Andhra Pradesh, he said that the party was looking for a leader with a clean image and one acceptable to all sections.
