Hyderabad would hog the national limelight as the country's two major parties -- BJP and Congress -- step up their efforts to woo voters in Telangana ahead of the Assembly elections.

On September 17th evening, the Congress will hold a mega rally near Hyderabad, where the party will launch its 5 guarantees for the people of Telangana.

"After the public meeting, on the 18th our leaders will hit the constituencies going door-to-door distribution of 5 guarantees and chargesheet against the BRS govt," the party said.

While the BJP is planning to rope in its key strategist and Union home minister Amit Shah for meetings on September 17 to mark the day Hyderabad joined India, the Congress went a step further to summon all its leaders to Hyderabad on September 16 for a CWC meeting, which would

culminate with a mega rally on September 17.

The Nizam of Hyderabad Mir Osman Ali Khan signed the instrument of accession on September 17, following the Operation Polo, merging the Princely State of Hyderabad with the Indian Union. The Congress meeting on September 17 also assumes significance as it shows the party's resolve to prevent the BJP from appropriating the nationalist agenda by celebrating September 17 as the Hyderabad Liberation Day.

"The Congress President has decided to convene the new CWC meeting on  September 16 at Hyderabad. The extended working committee meeting on September 17, along with the CWC members, CPP presidents, CLP leaders, and Parliamentary party office bearers will also attend this meeting," the Congress said in a release.
