The Congress will announce its candidate for the Huzurabad by-poll before September 10 after seeking the opinion of its leaders in the constituency.
There appears to be a difference of opinion among the party leaders with some leaders insisting that a local candidate be fielded and the others favouring an experienced candidate.
To discuss all these aspects, AICC Telangana in-charge Manickam Tagore held a marathon meeting with party leaders, including TPCC president A Revanth Reddy, at Gandhi Bhavan here on Monday.
TPCC working president Mahesh Kumar Goud said interesting results would come out in the triangular contest in the by-poll. The party leadership also discussed the Dalit Dandora programme and decided to conduct two more such public meetings before concluding it on September 17.
“However, the party has still not decided on holding Dalit Dandora
in the Gajwel constituency,” he said, adding that Leader of Opposition in the Parliament Mallikarjun Kharge would participate in the final Dalit Dandora programme on September 17.
Meanwhile, TPCC senior vice-president G Niranjan said BJP State unit Bandi Sanjay should learn the history of Sri Bhagya Lakshmi temple in the old city and appealed to him not to use it for political purposes.
“Going by Sanjay’s comments, it appears that the temple is in some other country and no one had visited the temple in the past,” he said, adding that former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and several other prominent leaders had visited the temple.
“It will be wise on the part of BJP leaders if they put their efforts in securing votes with their achievements in developing the country and desist from resorting to communal politics,” said Niranjan.
