Continuing with measures to ensure pedestrian-friendly on the city road stretches, (GHMC) the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has been engaged in building new footpaths and renovating the existing ones. Presently, in the GHMC limits the pavements works are underway at 68 locations with an estimated cost of Rs 31.54 crore.
From 2016-17 to 2021-22 (till date), the footpath works have been completed at 487 locations in GHMC limits with an estimated budget of Rs 80.53 crore. While the total length of footpaths in the city during 2014 was 452 km, it
increased to 816.9 Km by 2021.
In 2020, Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao instructed the GHMC to construct 10 km of new footpaths in each zone, according to a press release from the civic body.
Following this, an amount of Rs. 32.75 crore was sanctioned to build new footpaths running to about 75.64 km at 69 locations across all the six GHMC zones. Out of the total proposed works, 62.08 Km of new footpaths were built and the remaining works are under various stages of implementation, the civic body added.
