Vigilance sleuths of HMWS&SB have now decided to crack the whip on tampering of water meters. “We will select a few consumers randomly and check the water meter reading and bills. If we come across any wrongdoing or fudging of numbers by the users, we will have no hesitation in booking cases against the culprits,” a senior water board official warned.
HMWS&SB chief vigilance officer and board director (revenue) organised a key meeting with water meter readers’ agencies here on
Wednesday and issued instructions to them to strictly avoid tampering with water meters. “We are giving 15 days to the agencies to set right anomalies in the meters. Raids will be conducted and cases filed against those tampering with meters,” a vigilance official said.
