In the last 20 days, Mangalhat police raided several shops and booked 18 cases against 22 persons for selling Chinese manja. A total of 1,094 bobbins which were made with synthetic material were also seized.
The police have conducted special drives on the shops selling Chinese manja and booked cases. The kite sellers were warned on being made directly responsible and cases booked against them if anyone gets injured with Chinese
manja.
“All the field officers went heavily on kite sellers who were selling Chinese manja and booked cases. We also held a coordination meeting with the local residents and issued an advisory,” said a senior police official from the South-West zone.
In 2017, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had imposed a complete ban on the production, storage, and sale of Chinese manja as it not only poses a threat to birds and humans but also causes harm to the environment.
