Counting of votes for 534 ZPTCs and 5,659 MPTCs, has commenced across the State on Tuesday morning. The results are expected to be declared from afternoon onwards. The Telangana State Election Commission (TSEC) made all arrangements to conduct the counting process amidst tight security.
The counting has been taken up in 978 halls at 123 locations from 8 am onwards. The officials completed counting of postal ballots and took up counting of votes for MPTCs. After completing counting of the MPTCs votes, the election officials will take up votes counting for ZPTCs. The counting process is being conducted in three stages, polling station-wise verification of valid ballot papers, bundling of ballot papers, and final counting of votes.
About 11,882 counting supervisors and 23,647 counting assistants have been deployed for the counting process. The candidates to deputed two polling agents each on their behalf
at the counting centres to ensure that there is no room for errors in results.
As against 538 ZPTCs and 5,817 MPTCs in the State, about four ZPTC and 158 MPTCs respectively were elected unanimously. Only six MPTC seats were won by Congress and independent candidates. The remaining four ZPTCs and 152 MPTCs respectively were secured by TRS through unanimous elections. In all, 2,426 candidates contested for ZPTC and 18,930 candidates competed for MPTC. About 1.2 crore of 1.56 crore voters exercised their franchise in the Parishad elections recording more than 77 per cent poll percentage.
A special meeting will be convened for MPTC members to conduct the elections to the posts of Mandal Praja Parishad president and other posts on June 7. Similarly, a special meeting of ZPTC members will be held to elect Zilla Praja Parishad chairpersons and other posts on June 8.
