Six more persons have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Hyderabad on Monday, taking the overall number of Covid-19 positive cases to 33 in Telangana.
Out of the six positive cases, five persons are from Hyderabad with a travel history of return from foreign countries while the sixth patient, a 23-year-old man from Karimnagar, had no travel history but was a close contact of the Indonesian group of ten coronavirus positive persons.
“This is the second time in Telangana when a local person has tested positive for coronavirus despite no travel history. There could be many more in the near future. That’s the reason why, we are insisting on lock down and people not venturing out,” said Health Minister, Eatala Rajender.
A 21-year-old student from Balkampet with a travel history
of return from France and another 30-year-old student from Shantinagar, Saidabad area with a travel history of return from London have tested positive for Covid-19. Another 21-year-old student from Somajiguda with a travel history of return from New York and 25-year student from Gachibowli with a travel history of return from London have tested positive.
The fifth positive case is a 56-year-old businessman from Kukatpally with a travel history of return from Sri Lanka.
In the month of March, nearly 20,000 people have returned to Hyderabad from foreign countries. “There is a large cross-section of people who have been asked to be under home quarantine. At present, there are 97 persons who have suspected symptoms of the novel coronavirus,” he said.
