A top police official informed that the crime rate against women in Hyderabad has reduced by 10 percent during 2017 while the overall crime rate has declined by 13 percent in the city when compared to the previous year.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner V V Srinivasa Rao told reporters on Thursday that the number of cases registered under Indian Penal Code and special local laws this year is 14,479 while 16,661 cases were registered in 2016 with 1,886 cases regarding crime against
women were reported in 2017 as against 2,099 cases in 2016.
He stated that 26 percent drop has been witnessed in serious crime such as murders whereas 14 percent in grave crimes, 20 percent in property crimes and 47 percent reduction in chain snatching cases.
644 persons in connection with stalking and eve-teasing have been caught by the SHE Teams with 94 cases filed and 187 persons arrested in connection with drugs and other contraband.
