Giving details of crime figures, Anurag Sharma said there was a decrease of 81 per cent crime rate till November this year compared to last year. A total

of 92,685 cognizable crimes were reported compared to 93,439 cases during the same period last year. Murder for gain cases were 84 this year as against 124 last year. Similarly, rape cases came down to 705 from 796 and crime against women reported 12,422 this year till November compared to 11,794 cases last year during same period.

There was a significant decrease in the incidence of dacoity, murder for gain, kidnap and abduction, ordinary thefts and rioting. However, there was a marginal increase in robbery owing to registration of cases of chain-snatching where victims suffered physical injuries under the head, the DGP said. He also said 12,422 cases of crime against women were reported this year compared to 11794 cases last year. Effective steps are being taken to ensure safety and security of women. “She Teams” have been formed Statewide for protecting the women and children from the menace of eve-teasing and harassment at public places, he added.
