Dalit student groups prepare to observe the first anniversary of suicide of research scholar Rohith Vemula on January 17.
With Rohith's mother Radhika Vemula, sharing the dais would be Mohammad Akhlaq's brother Jaan Mohammad, JNU's disappeared student Najeeb's mother Fatima Nafees, Piyush Sarvaiya, Rajesh Sarvaiya, Jeetu Sarvaiya from Una in Gujarat, all of whom have been part of the 'anti-national' controversies. The JAC has also sent invitations to media to be present in large numbers to observe 'Rohith Vemula Shahadath Din'.
Meanwhile, the UoH administration has maintained that outsiders would not be allowed inside the campus. In this regard, a press release from the administration stated: "The University has not issued
any permission to hold such activities. The university cannot provide a platform for outsiders to participate in the activities called by insiders or outsiders when there is no permission for the same. There is a ban prevailing on the campus on allowing outsiders into the campus and hence the University will not entertain any outsiders directly or indirectly to enter the campus. The High Court vide WPMP No. 15218 of 2016 in WP No. 10124/2016 dated 12.04.2016 has barred entry of all outsiders into the University campus."
Officials from the university too said that no permission was sought about participation of people in the programme to be organised on Tuesday. Media personnel too would not be allowed in the campus.
