A delivery person was severely injured on Sunday afternoon after falling from a third-floor apartment to evade a Labrador present at his delivery destination.
He was rushed to a private hospital and is being treated, with his condition said to be out of danger, according to the police.
The police said that the incident took place around 1 pm, when the victim, identified as Ilyas, who is in his 20s, went to deliver a mattress to Basireddy Leela Rani, residing in a third-floor apartment of Srinidhi Heights apartments in Panchavati Colony of Manikonda, under the Raidurgam police station.
As per the sequence of events, Ilyas carried the mattress in the lift and stepped out, when the Labrador, sitting on a cot in Leela Rani’s flat, started barking. Fearful of being attacked, Ilyas dropped the mattress at
the door and ran for safety, climbing the parapet wall in the process.
He was falling after losing balance as Leela Rani raised the alarm and rushed to his rescue. Even as she tried to pull him up, he fell and landed on the ground, suffering multiple injuries.
A resident, a boy, said he saw the delivery man falling and raised the alarm. "People rushed to the spot, but he fell," the boy added.
The cops said that as per their initial probe, it was prima facie found that the dog was not leashed, which led to the incident. They registered a case and started an investigation.
In a similar incident at Banjara Hills in January, a food delivery person jumped from an apartment, fearing an attack from a pet of the customer, and died.
