An integrated diagnostic centre, as part of Telangana diagnostic programme, was launched at the state run Gandhi Hospital on Monday to bring MRI scan, 2D echo and other facilities under one roof. The move, officials said, is part of a bigger plan to upgrade diagnostic services across all government hospitals.
With diagnostic services at these hospitals being limited to basic blood and urine tests, doctors are often compelled to refer patients to private labs for other tests. Investigations related to cardiology and neurology too aren’t available in
most hospitals at present. “By bringing diagnostic services as well as special investigations we want to enhance the patient care at government hospitals. Thousands of patients will benefit from the service,” said health minister C Laxma Reddy.
Plans are also afoot for setting up an organ transplantation centre at Gandhi Hospital at an estimated cost of Rs.40 crore, he said. “Also Rs.26 crore has been sanctioned to developed state of the art mortuaries in government hospitals,” Reddy added.
